Paraguay
CONGRESO NACIONAL - CÁMARA DE SENADORES
Description
The Chamber of Senators is one of the two chambers of Paraguay's National Congress, together with the Chamber of Deputies, under the bicameral system established by the National Constitution. It is composed of 45 senators elected to represent citizens at the national level.
Its main role is legislative: debating, studying and passing bills jointly with the Chamber of Deputies, ratifying international treaties, and taking part in the appointment of certain state authorities. It also exercises parliamentary oversight of the Executive Branch and other public bodies.
Legislative work is organized through permanent and special committees, responsible for the technical review of bills, and plenary sessions coordinated by the Chamber's Board of Directors.
